Apple
Apple is one of the most popular and innovative technology brands across
the globe. Even without the use of other contextual branding, the Apple logo
is instantly recognizable. Despite changing several times since its original
founding, the unique branding style for the technology company has allowed
it to withstand the ever-changing consumer market.
Aesthetics
Technology brands are well aware that consumers want devices that feel and
look good to work with, but Apple takes aesthetics to a whole new level.
Throughout Apple's existence, it has consistently redesigned the appearance
of the hardware and software of its most popular devices in order to appeal
to the current audience.
Apple's original aesthetic approach mirrored similar techonology in the
1980s, with the Macintosh being one of its most popular products. However,
one of the most iconic portable laptop designs came with the introduction of
the iMac and iBook in 1999. The colorful clamshell laptops and desktop are
truly synonymous with the vibrant colors of the Y2K era of
technology.
Even Apple consumers who were not around to purchase iBooks when they
originally released will recognize the iconic bold coloring from the film
Legally Blonde.
On April 3, 2010, Apple introduced the first ever
iPad. The design was similar to the overall technology aesthetic of the time,
with app logos that used intense detail and gradients to set them apart from
the screen's background and a wide black outline surrounding the main
screen. The design of the original iPad mirrored the turning point of
Apple's overall design structure.
Two years before on January 15, 2008, Steve Jobs stood on stage at the
MacWorld conference and pulled an entire laptop out of a simple manila
envelope. The introduction of the first Macbook Air shocked the entire
industry because it redefined how portal personal laptops could be. Much
like the iPhones and iPads of the time, its software aesthetic fit perfectly
with the consumer desire to have slimmer technology.
The most recent linup of Apple technology has taken a much more modern
minimalistic approach. Although the vibrant colors of the 2000s have
diminished, Apple has replaced the bright color pallete with colors that
blend well with its new "liquid glass" translucent software. The most recent
iPhone, the iPhone 17 Pro, features colors that can blend in anywhere while
placing a focus on the distinct Apple logo and camera design.
Even among the more minimalistic design of Apple's newest mobile devices,
Apple still emphasizes its unique touch across all of its devices. Fans of
Apple who have purchased Macbooks over the years will have noticed that the
positioning of the Apple logo has changed so that it is rightside up when the
laptop is open. The choice to make this adjustment directly reflects the
importance for the logo to be visible and recognizable for other potential
consumers. In addition to the modern iPhones, Macbooks are a strong example of
Apple's new approach to sleek, portable technology.
Not all of Apple's newest technology is purely focused on a basic color
pallete, however. The company has placed an emphasis on color variety in areas
that appeal to a similar audience that enjoyed the iBook pallete. The newest
iteration of the
iMacs
features seven colors, including yellow, orange, green, blue, pink, purple,
and the standard gray. The design blends the fun coloring with Apple's
minimalistic approach.
The Apple Ecosystem
Apple doesn't just create new technology, it provides users with a way to
seamlessly connect information across different devices. Consumers who buy
multiple products, such as an iPhone and Macbook together, can seamlessly
send documents and play videos on other Apple devices. With the inclusion of
software
such as AirDrop, Apple users can even send information to each other without
needing cables or other applications.
Apple integration can extend to every part of a user's lifestyle.
Carplay allows for drivers to access their music applications and receive
messages while driving, while other services like Apple Card provide consumers
with methods to pay directly from their iPhones.
Apple's seamless technology is more that just ease of access for users,
it's what makes it stand out from the competition. The unique blend of
aesthetic and accessibility is unique for each of its products in order to
ensure that each targeted demographic receives a polished product that meets
their needs.
Marketing
The technology that Apple produces is tailored to match the current
consumers, and its marketing follows this trend. One of Apple's most iconic
advertisements ran during the mid-2000s and marketed the iPod. With a mix of
vibrant colors, silhouettes that highlighted the structure of the product,
and catchy dance moves, the ads caught the attention of many teens and young
adults when it was released. Each iteration of the ad featured a different
song that could be downloaded on the iPod.
Today, Apple utilizes a much more user-focused marketing strategy. Since
most of the Apple products are intended to be used for productivity and
creative fields, the bulk of the advertisements are geared toward showing
how polished the aspects of different products are. On the company's
Instagram account, countless images with the hashtag #shotoniphone can be
found. These collaborations with users promote the company while reaching
out to regular consumers of the brand.
With the introduction of the
Macbook Neo in 2026, Apple has also created a new mascot for use in TikTok
advertisements. Little Finder Guy tells potential consumers all about the
ease of access inclusions in the Macbook.
The inclusion of a new figure in marketing has helped new users looking for
a reliable, affordable computer learn more about the perks of the Macbook
Neo while also connecting the imagery of the finder application to the
marketing. Apple has done a similar tactic with its branding across the
board. Any service that utilizes Apple's data backup is depicted through the
tagline "air" or "cloud," and the use of "Mac" for computer products ties
directly to the original Macintosh computers.
No matter what product you buy from Apple, the iconic apple silhouette logo can be seen on the back. Even if an individual isn't familiar with a certain Apple product, it is immediately distinguishable from other brands due to Apple's consistent branding style and polished products.
